Milkfish

Milkfish is considered as one of the staple foods by the Indonesia government when the President issued the Presidential Decree No. 71 the Year 2015. Indeed, milkfish is an important protein source, especially for the people who live in the coastal area. In 2017, the national production of milkfish was 637,000 tons, which mostly were for the local market. Indonesia just started to export milkfish, mostly to Asia countries (e.g. Malaysia, South Korea, Myanmar, Singapore, etc.), and small volume to Europe (Germany and the Netherlands). For the export market, milkfish farmers in Indonesia are struggling to meet some requirements from the buyers, such as size uniformity, proper handling practices, and complying the processing standards.
